In 1992, sales of forest products surpassed $200 billion, making it the country’s ninth largest industrial sector (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1995). The aesthetic benefits that forests can offer to rural and residential environments are becoming increasingly appreciated by the public. Greenways are a network of roads, streams, canals, roads or biking trails that connect parks, natural areas and historic sites in cities and suburbs.
